HOVERCRAFT RACES

MAY 19, 2022 · ROB CARTWRIGHT

Each year our Sophomore ENP252 students take on the challenge of using their classroom learning to get their hands dirty with some real–world applications. This turns the head–knowledge into a bunch of physical design work, and some great competition pictures too!

As they design and build a remotely controllable Hovercraft, they learn to analyze prop thrust, lift, and control systems. To create the Hovercraft, they design complete systems in CAD software, and the final designs are 3D printed and laser cut. They also design and work with electronic controls, radio frequency links, embedded controller programming, and more.
